Hello, again!
Have you ever been at Santo Domingo’s church or neighborhood? It is located in Quito’s downtown, and this week I want to tell you about a mysterious legend there.
The
story said that once for a long period of time, a lady walked through the
streets at that place between midnight until 3 AM in the morning. A woman said
that one night after her work, she wanted to know the hour because, she forgot
her watch, and saw far away in one corner of the street, there was a lady with
an elegant black dress and a big coat so, she went straight to ask the hour to
that woman.
Thus, she realized that lady did not have face because, she was only a skeleton. The woman run away with a lot of screams, she only wanted to come back to her house, and to not die before she did it. After some time, one man saw the same lady, when he was walked at midnight in Santo Domingo’s neighborhood.
For that reason, this mysterious lady was called “The widow of Santo Domingo”, after her constant public appearances, and the fear that people at place had, this lady started to appear from seven o'clock at night.
No one
could leave their house after that time so as not to meet the widow, and the
houses closed their doors very tightly so that she did not enter either. One
day, a brave group of young people went hunting to remove her from the place at
once, but she never appeared, nor did she ever do it again.
Some
friends who lives there told me that people says she disappeared inside the
cemetery or maybe she was lost there, and that is why she cannot return to the
streets.
Do you
know another stories of “The widow”?
Wow! I have never heard about this story before. It caught my attention immediately because it sounds such as a Mexican legend too. It is very nice that you share with us all this stuff about some magical legends of Ecuador. Thanks, Emi for sharing it with us, I hope to see a new post soon! :)
ResponderEliminarHi Emy, it was so nice to read this short legend so to speak, I had heard about the widow who chased the drunk people but never about the widow of the church of Santo Domingo.
